Zandy Mangold
- Chaski / USATF Certified Coach
- Academic All-American
- XC Captain at Connecticut College
- Photographer on every continent
Zandy grew up amongst the roots and rocks of rural New Hampshire, but has lived in Brooklyn, NY since 2001. After graduating from Connecticut College where he earned Academic All-American honors in cross-country, he embarked on a career as a photojournalist, and it was actually a photography assignment for Racing The Planet that introduced him to ultrarunning.
Naive to the demands of an ultramarathon, Zandy finished in dead last place in his first ultra event - a 250km stage race in the Australian outback - but he learned key lessons and since that race went on win other ultra races, qualify for six Boston Marathons, but most importantly develop a sustainable approach to racing and training.
Some of Zandy’s accomplishments include running 10 Boston Marathons, and ultramarathons such as the Western States 100, the Badwater 135, and the 155 mile Spartathlon. He is also leads trail running camps for www.trailsandroots.com.
Coaching runners is just as rewarding as running for Zandy. He is especially proud of guiding runners to their first 100 milers, Boston Marathon qualifying times and even podium finishes. “I know what it’s like to have goals, but lack the direction to achieve them. It is incredibly rewarding to put my hard earned lessons to work and help someone else run to their full potential and achieve their dreams!”
