Ty fell in love with endurance sport as a teenager and never looked back. Since his first days as a scrawny high school cross country runner, he has developed into a multi-time World Record Holder, a US National Champion, and a World Championship Silver Medalist.
As an athlete, Ty has progressed immensely from his humble roots as a high schooler (running only 18:30 for 5K), before competing in NCAA Div. 3 track and cross country for Tufts University. Upon graduating, he chased his running dreams and moved to South America where his dedication and subsequent improvement at longer distances earned him a professional athlete sponsorship.
In his 10+ year career, Ty has established himself as a world-class endurance runner first on the roads and later on the trails and in the mountains. He competed in two Olympic Trials, three World Championships, and found his true passion in the mountains, where he has set countless world records in the Himalaya, Andes, USA, and Africa, and been named the greatest high altitude mountain-runner of his generation.
As a coach, Ty has been working with athletes of all levels for more than a decade. With multiple certifications, he has always been a student of the sport and is alway trying to learn more about training theory, especially the mental side of sport. He has experience coaching all ages, from high schoolers to 60+ senior athletes, and all levels, including both world-class athletes and complete beginners. Less important is an athlete’s speed than is their passion and commitment to their training!
